BOEING AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM: 2010

WABS and The Boeing Company have partnered to provide afterschool math and science classes facilitated by Boeing engineers.

Grade Levels:  4-5 and 6-8

Structure:

  • Boeing employees volunteer their time to conduct six one-hour lessons in math, science or both after school at your school during the Fall, Winter and Spring quarters of the 2010 school year.
  • The Boeing volunteers have been trained to present a special curriculum designed to enhance Science and Math state standards.  The Boeing Math and Science In Action Program was designed by local teachers to help promote science and math  “hands-on” learning experiences in an afterschool environment.  These activities can help struggling students and reinforce math and science concepts.
  • To implement the program, your school will need to commit to the following
    • Recruit a coordinating teacher for each class requested to provide a classroom with at least one computer with internet access;
    • Recruit a minimum of 10 students (max=25) to attend the 6 (1-hour) sessions for each class requested; create a flyer to send home with students one month prior to the start of each quarter;
    • Coordinate and assist the Boeing Volunteers;
    • Arrange for transportation home for participating students;
    • Remain in the classroom to provide supervision and assistance
    • Supply Kits (materials and handouts) are supplied by WABS.
    • One – three Boeing Volunteers will instruct each class.

Implementation dates for the 2010 sessions:

1)  Winter Session:  February 1, 2010 through March 19, 2010
2)  Spring Session:  April 26, 2010 through June 3, 2010
